ONG transparency

ONG por la trasnparencia

ONG por la trasnparencia

ONGxT Network is the collective expression of some civil society organizations interested in strengthening a culture of transparency within the NGO sector in Colombia, guided by the principle of self-regulation and aims to make visible and to build confidence in who we are and do.

To accomplish this we have proposed will move simultaneously in two ways:

On one hand, strengthen the National Network of NGOs for Transparency, ONGxT, which are linked to organizations that are interested and committed to put on their sites a minimum of information, so that each is visible and transparent to the general public. Today ONGxT network has 53 organizations in different regions of the country, working in very diverse and structural and operational characteristics also varied.

On the other hand, and welcoming the initiative of the Colombian Confederation of NGOs, we have made an alliance with the latter in the design and implementation of systematic exercise of social accountability (RSC), understood as a collective effort of submission to the society of some of the main contributions made by NGOs to the development of the city, region and country. In 2006, pilots made two exercises, one in Manizales-Caldas and one in Medellin, Antioquia. Already by 2007 coverage was expanded and took out 5 exercises of CSR in different regions of the country, called to 213 NGOs.

Nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) are a way of grouping of civil society, committed to building social and democratic state of law works for the common good. From this responsibility and the aspiration to expand the notion of the democratic public in the country, NGOs and social sector organizations, endorse this statement, we decided to carry out the NGO initiative for transparency.

So far we have been regulated and monitored in various ways: we present systematic information to our recipients and donors, periodically present accounting information to both national and local state, we are audited by specialist firms, and so on. This is fine, but we want to go further.

We want to increase our visibility, presenting ongoing public information, systematic and qualified on ourselves as the best way to share what we are and do and to achieve credibility and public support. Do collectively is the possibility to prove that there is a concern of an NGO episodic isolation but is a trend of much of the sector.

We promote this initiative because:

We are aware that transparency must be passed by ourselves and is specified in the requirement of publicly clear on who we are, what we intend, what we do, how we do, how and with whom we do it.
We know that the good faith of our purposes does not relieve us of mistakes, hence the ongoing evaluation of what we do is a value that we incorporate the daily work and we know the best way for the results of these evaluation processes is to be taken seriously which are available to interested parties.
We believe that the recipients of the work of NGOs are entitled to a reliable and quality work, ethical and technically well-founded, hence, the mechanisms that have built every organization to ensure that their work quality and to incorporate lessons learned, shall be permanently open to the scrutiny of these groups.
Believe that those who provide resources for implementation of activities are entitled to qualified and reliable information on how resources are invested. This includes systems provided with reliable information production program, financial and accounting; these tools, which are a requirement for daily governance are at the same time, an opportunity for our contributors, the public and the state, improve its reliability in our honesty, having the opportunity to meet more fully the information.
It is for this that we decided to present our policy of transparency, with more and better what we have hitherto done, and we undertake to deliver to the general public, with clear, truthful and updated information on our organizations, government and control, projects in development, management and financial reports through the Internet and other print media.
